Hello Worlds!

This is Josh Karpel's personal website.

It has my idle thoughts, my non-idle thoughts, and links to my other embodiments on the internet (e.g., my GitHub profile).

I current work at Workday, where I design and develop ML Ops systems as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer. At work I mostly write Python and use tools like Airflow, Kafka, and Kubernetes. At home I play around with Python, Typescript, and Rust, often thinking about CLI tools of varying usefulness (like Spiel), or working on this very website.

Before I was at Workday, I was a postdoc at the Morgridge Institute for Research in the Center for High Throughput Computing. I worked on high-throughput machine learning and image processing projects, as well as Python-based tools for interacting with HTCondor (like HTMap).

Before that, I got a Ph.D. in Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in the Yavuz Group in December 2019. My research was in simulating non-linear quantum-optical systems, leveraging high-throughput computing techniques (which is how I learned about the Center for High Throughput Computing).
